Crochet Directions for Any Crochet Enthusiast

There are many types of crochet stitches any crochet enthusiast can employ in his or her pieces. And even if you cannot master each and every one of these crochet stitches, it is better to be familiar with all of them. Here are some crochet directions on how to go about the more common crochet stitches.

The chain stitch, of course, is the basic crochet stitch one should learn. In fact, crochet directions would have you learn this type of stitch before anything else. The first thing to do is to place the hook at your thread’s left side. Then, you turn your thread, so that it would form a loop. Don’t release the loop just yet. Just hold it between your fingers, typically, your index and thumb fingers. While holding the loop, go through the thread over and yarn over motion. You then catch the thread, using your hook, and then draw more thread right through the loop you made on the hook. This creates your first chain, actually. Keep doing this, until you’ve reached the length you want.

Another stitch that is important to be familiar with when following crochet directions is the slip stitch. After your chain is made, you insert your hook right into the second chain from your hook. When this is done, catch thread, and let it pass through the first two thread strands. After which, you insert your hook into the following chain stitch. Keep doing this, until you’ve reached the length you want as well.

The next common stitch is the single crochet stitch. Just like the previous crochet directions, the single crochet stitch makes use of a chain at a length you desire. You still insert the hook through the second chain from the hook. After which, you catch the thread and draw more through the loop. Repeat the thread over and drawing motion with both loops on your hook until you reach your desired length.

The double crochet stitch, on the other hand, requires insertion of the hook through the fourth chain. Thread over just once, and then draw thread through the two loops made. Thread over again, and then draw more thread through the two loops remaining. This makes your first double crochet then. Repeat these steps until you’ve reached your desired length still.

The above crochet directions comprise the basic stitches any crochet enthusiast should be familiar with. But the crochet directions don’t stop there because there are still a lot of things to know when taking up this hobby. Other crochet directions to keep in mind include how to hold the yarn and the hook, what makes good quality yarn, what accessories to buy when crocheting, and the like. But when you’re familiar with the basics, everything should follow through.
