Is cat discipline possible?

It is a common misconception that it is not possible to train cats. Despite being very independent, cats do understand that a particular behavior is bad, if you take out the time and patience to teach it.

If you want to discipline your ragdoll cat, then you should never resort to violence, if you are violent, your cat will not understand its bad behavior, but will instead be afraid of you. Here are some of the kinder ways that you can adopt in order to inculcate discipline.

The face push method.

This is a very effective method of training your cat. When ever you cat does something that is unacceptable than you should give a firm push on its face and say NO. This gives a signal to the cat that its behavior is wrong. When you repeat this action again and gain the cat will understand its fault.

The squirt gun.

When your cat is at a distance and you need to discipline your ragdoll cat, then you can use a squirt gun. A squirt gun filled with water and a dash of vinegar should do the trick. When you find your ragdoll cat to be misbehaving, all you need to do is to spray the water on its face with a stern NO.

The rattle bottle.

You can also use a small bottle partly filled with coins or pebbles to discipline your cat. All you have to do is to shake the bottle or drop it to the ground and say a firm No whenever your cat is misbehaving. It is important that you use this technique in moderation otherwise your radgdoll cat will become insensitive to this sound.

Mostly it is found that dogs are more aggressive than cats, but there are also cases of cat aggression. Here is a list of the different types of aggression and how you should go about dealing with it.

Play aggression.

This aggression is also called the conditioned aggression. It means that your cat gets rough when it is playing; the reason why your cat behaves this way is because it has been trained to be like that since it was a kitten.

Conditioned aggression.

As we have discussed earlier, if your rag doll is suffering from play aggression then it has been cultivated in it since you were rearing it as a kitten. It is important that when you are rearing kittens that you take away the aggression by letting the kitten focus on a toy such as a sting attached to a stick. You can also control it by using a squirt gun.

Pain aggression.

If your cat is in pain, then the only way it can tell you is by scratching you or biting you. In this case you should make sure to consult a veterinarian at the earliest.

If you are having a tough time at trying to get your cat off the table, then you could try the same technique of a squirt gun with the No command. Cats do understand what they are being squirted for and they tend to obey in future.
