Ragdolls: Where Did They Come From?

I have just heard a got hold of a very fascinating story on rag doll cats and how they came into being. So here it is the fascinating and the most interesting story that I have ever read and possibly a story that you will enjoy as much as I did.

The story is about a woman named Ann Baker. This woman Ann Baker lived in California and had two cats named Josephine and Daddy Warbucks. True to his name, with his genes and that of Josephine, a new breed of cats was born.

The owner of these cats then named the kittens the ragdoll cats and also patented it. It meant that any one else who breaded rag doll cats or used that name would have to pay a sum to Ann Baker.

She also started a cat registry in 1971 called the international ragdolls association after breeding more cats from Daddy Warbucks. Ann baker said that her cats differed from the other cats in five major ways.

Firstly her cats were relatively larger.

Secondly there were less sensitive to pain.

Thirdly their furs remain nice and shiny and do not mat together

Fourthly unlike other cats they lack the skills of self preservation.

Fifthly they go limp like a ragdoll when you hold them.

Till now the story is quite sane and believable but you have t read on to come to the most fascinating part!

There were very eccentrics claims made about the ragdoll cats, it was said that the cat got its characteristics because of a secret government experiment in genetics, to top it all it was also said to be a likely possibility that aliens gave that breed!!

Although the credit for giving the look and he temperament of the breed goes to the eccentric Ann Baker, but the credit for giving this breed international fame goes to deny and Laura Dayton. They are the ones who set up the Ragdoll fanciers’ club international. They also got the bred registered with the NCFA making it a recognized purebred.

Regarding the true story of the origin of the ragdoll cats, there are as many stories as many mouths. There are people who will come up with a saying that perhaps our Daddy Warbucks was kidnapped by aliens and thus he gave birth to a new breed of cats. But I personally like to believe that ragdoll cats were a result of a careful planning and a lot of hard work went in to breeding it.
