Using Black and White Film

There are many reasons to use black and white film when taking photos for your scrapbooking. And the ease of converting photos from color to black and white has increased the popularity of using black and white photos.

You can easily have copies of the same photo in both color and black and white, whether you have them printed for you or do it yourself using a digital camera and one of the many photo editing programs available today.

Some people simply prefer the look of black and white photos, while for others it may be for a change of pace, so to speak. I thought I’d take some time to go over some of the reasons I’ve heard and the benefits that come with them.

Ease of coordination was one of the first reasons I heard. If you’re using black and white photos there’s no hassle in choosing colors for our layouts. Virtually any color can be used without clashing with your photos. If you’re looking for a simple method, you may want to give black and white photos a try.

The next reason I was given was style. For some people, a black and white photo has a level of style and class that they simply don’t see in colored photos. If you’re thinking of creating a particularly elegant scrapbook you might want to try printing some of your photos in black and white to test the look.

Another explanation for the use of black and white film was nostalgia. As I’m sure we all can agree, when you think of black and white photos the first thing we think of are the old pictures we have of our ancestors.

The sentimental feelings we have when we look at those photos may be somewhat stronger than the colored photos you have of your family. Black and white film may be just what you need to add a little extra sentimental feeling to your photos.

The other aspect of black and white film that was mentioned was its uncanny ability to capture our attention.

There’s nothing quite like a black and white photo to really catch someone’s attention. Even in the modern age of high-definition television and computer animated graphics, an old black and white movie will still captivate an audience.

No matter what your reason for wanting to use black and white photos in your scrapbook, it’s sure to result in a wonderful scrapbook.
