Ragdolls: Diet

Dry vs wet foods

Initially, you need to give your ragdoll cat milk in order to ensure that your pet receives maximum nutrition. But once the kitten grows up a little, the best thing for your ragdoll cat is dry food. Dry food is great for your cat’s chewing muscles and it has the correct proportion of protein and fat. You can serve the food dry or moistened, according to what your cat likes.

On the other hand, moist food is another option. It has protein and fat in a similar proportion and has about 75% moisture. Moist food is available in meat and vegetable mixtures apart from the only meat and only fish variety. However, try to give the meat and vegetable food to your cat for regular meals and preserve the only meat and only fish variety for those little treats. Remember to warm the moist food a little before feeding it o your cat.

The cat food that contains 35% water is known as semi moist food. It has the correct proportions of fat and protein at 7% and 27%. Semi moist food is something that your pet will love and it will give them the proper nutrition too.

In order to keep your kitten’s teeth healthy and at the same time, keep it happy and pampered, you can use the hard chew kitten treat.

Feeding Ragdoll Adults

Your ragdoll cat is not one of the mot active breeds around, and thus, you need to give them a balanced diet so that they do not get excess weight and become obese. Given below is a list of the food that your cat likes and how good they actually are:

Fish

Fish is a great thing for your cat but then, too much of it can result in the yellow fat disease in your cat. So give your cat the amount of fish it needs, but not more than that.

Milk

Although milk has carbohydrates and water, some cats find it difficult to digest. If your cat cannot digest cow milk, you can opt for replacement cat milk.

Catnip

Many cats love catnip leaves but it can mess up your cat’s behavior. Catnip is not addictive, but almost immediately results in delirium, so avoiding this hallucinogen is a great idea.

Dog food

Remember that dog food is not meant for your cat. So, don’t let your cat have food from your dog’s bowl just for the sake of convenience. The cat’s metabolism requires protein, taurine, complex vitamins, vitamin A and arachidonic acids. If your cat does not get these things from the diet, then it might even fall ill. Thus, never try to feed your cat dog food or vice versa.

Low ash diets

May cat owners around the world have a notion that giving your cat a low ash diet will prevent urinary infection. However, this notion is not technically true. Ash consists of magnesium, calcium, zinc, phosphorus and copper. In fact, it is only checking the levels of magnesium that is effective in keeping urine normal.
