Tips on Sewing on Your Pages

If you’re like me, you probably stared at the title of this article wondering if it was for real. Believe me, I thought the same thing when I first heard about sewing on scrapbook pages.

Once I realized it really was possible I was thrilled at the concept of being able to add stitching to my scrapbook. And whether you can sew or not, have a sewing machine or not, doesn’t truly make a difference. If you can grasp the concept of simple stitches then you can sew on your scrapbook pages.

The most important tip I can give you is to map out the design you want on your page before you start sewing. Whether you’re machine sewing or hand sewing doesn’t make a difference. It’s all too easy to make a mistake and ruin and entire page.

One of my favorites is creating a window box in your scrapbook. It’s a great way to showcase certain photos, memorabilia, poems or embellishments. You can create a window box out of common items like mat and vellum. The design is up to you, as is the materials you use, making this a great way to get creative.

You can use metallic thread, colored thread or plain thread. Trimming your window box is also up to you. You can trim your window with ribbon or other fabric or simply use a decorative stitch, or you can leave it plain. Ultimately, no matter what way you design it, it will be a wonderful addition to your page.

The next sewn addition you can add to your scrapbooks is embroidery. You can create embroidered titles, dedications and trim for your pages. Again, it can be simple or complex, plain or colorful. You can choose to add this to one page or all of your pages.

There are as many ideas for sewing on your pages as there are ideas for layouts for your scrapbook. If you’re interested in sewing on your pages you should take some time to browse the web to see what other ideas are out there.

Now that you’ve got yet another idea for your scrapbooks you ought to be ready to get busy. Have fun, get inspired and get sewing!
